@theaccessedituk: Gail’s Highgate Alt Text Sonal stands outside Gail’s in Highgate, a bakery. She is wearing a burgundy waistcoat and camel-coloured trousers, and is holding her red-and-white cane. Inside, the bakery is bright and well lit thanks to its large windows and white walls. There is a large step at the entrance, which can make access difficult for wheelchair users. Ramps are available for wheelchair users. Once inside, the bakery is all on one level, making it easier for Sonal to navigate. There is no menu available, so customers order by looking at the pastries on display and choosing what they would like. This is difficult for Sonal because she is unable to see the pastries clearly enough to choose independently. She was able to use her phone to read the name of one pastry, but reading all of the options this way would take her at least an hour. The bakery has an accessible toilet, which is a welcome feature and a win for accessibility. At 3:50, Sonal gives an in-depth review of her experience at Gail’s in Highgate. @GAIL’s #theaccessedit

Thank you for doing this! I'm also visually impaired and had a terrible experience at a noodle restaurant in Waterloo a few years ago. I'd asked them what vegetarian options they had and they just kept saying to me to read the menu (written in small writing) behind them and kept saying I was holding up the queue. Luckily they had pumpkin Katsu but it was absolutely awful treatment.

They could do with retraining their staff they didn't seem helpful or attentive at all even when you mentioned that you are deaf/blind!

I’m currently doing a bachelor’s degree in engineering and wanting to do my Master’s in human factors and ergonomics, and I wanted to tell you these videos are SO helpful for those of us who want to help design more inclusive spaces inclusive of ALL human beings. I hate that these things happen so often for you, but thank you so much for highlighting these! 👏💐

Surprised more brands haven’t decided to interact/work with you regarding this as it’s easy marketing for them and it hopefully leads to better accessibility for all - win win situation

Gosh this is frustrating that they don’t have a menu even on the counter for all the pastries. You’re making me think of all the places that just can’t accommodate

Love your videos. Didn’t like how the worker asked you to pick your own juice when you had already expressed difficulties around seeing the menu options. And they were very vague describing the drinks

I'm a wheelchair user and I get frustrated in Gail's by the height of the counters. I can feel your frustration in this video with the member of staff not really listening to what you're saying

A full size menu with all the pastries listed out would be so helpful at Gail’s! I’m vegan and they have a few plant based options but it’s written so small on the counter labels and in light green so it’s hard to identify them. Accessibility considerations are helpful in so many ways!

Every establishment should, at the very least, have a separate menu for people who may be visually impaired. Learning a lot from your videos
