“Love Tale
“Love Tale" theory proposes that the entire 800-year history of One Piece is not merely a political struggle for power, but a monumental romantic tragedy that recontextualizes the series’ original title, Romance Dawn. At the heart of the Void Century was a personal conflict between Imu and Joy Boy, who were both in love with Queen Nefertari D. Lily of Alabasta. While Imu sought absolute control, Lily chose Joy Boy’s path of freedom, a "betrayal" that shattered Imu’s heart and led him to spend the next eight centuries trying to erase their memory from existence. This "Void" in history was created by Imu to bury his own shame and the fact that the "God of the World" was rejected by the woman he loved. The One Piece itself is theorized to be a deeply personal letter or diary—a "Love Tale"—written by Imu to Lily, which Gol D. Roger found so absurdly human and pathetic that he couldn't help but laugh until he cried. This explains why the Giant Straw Hat is kept in a frozen vault; it is a cold, lonely memento of Lily’s bond with Joy Boy that Imu refuses to let go of. The Will of D represents the Dawn, the inevitable sunrise that will end Imu’s 800-year "Night" of grief and secrecy.
