@hannah.jungle: Breastfeeding my almost 3 year old daughter makes me a statistical anomaly in the UK, where only 0.5% of mothers are still breastfeeding their child by age 1. That's 1 in 200 women, still breastfeeding by age 1 in the UK... But the extraordinary benefits of breastfeeding are well known, and they don't suddenly stop when your baby hits a certain age. All over the world, it's normal to breastfeed a child until age, 3, 4, 5 and sometimes beyond. Why are the statistics so low here? This isn't a post to tell you what to do, but it is one to say if you are breastfeeding an older toddler, and you've been made to feel like that's somehow weird or gross, it's not. You are doing something quiet miraculous, and I see you 🧡

❤️my daughter was 5 when she stopped, my son 4 and im still feeding my youngest at bed time who is now 4. I will always advocate natural term weaning. My boobs haven't had a day off in 10 years 😂 x

I would have loved to have beast fed my baby but due to medical reasons I couldn’t but I champion ANY mother who breast feeds and to the age the child requires it

Currently still feeding my 21 month old. I plan to feed until he naturally stops, whether that be at 2,3,4,5… the natural age to wean for humans is anywhere from age 2-7 so I’ve planned to be in this for the long haul. When he decides to stop, we stop and not before then. Currently down to 2-3 feeds a day. It’s insane to me that even though that’s completely and utterly normal and has been for all of human history, somehow in the western world we’ve strayed so far from what is normal for our species that we consider it more acceptable to feed children the stolen milk of another animal (even in to adulthood), but we consider human milk from a mother to their human child abnormal. It’s insane.

I’m still breastfeeding my 17-month-old little boy, and I genuinely love it. ❤️Sometimes family members make me feel like I should have stopped by now or tell me that there are no longer any benefits for him, which I know isn’t true. I think the pressure gets to me more because I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep in over two years — I struggled with sleep throughout pregnancy, and now my little boy still wakes around 2–3 times a night. I’m often told it’s because I still breastfeed, so when I’m completely exhausted there are definitely moments when I think, “Maybe I should stop.” But when I take away the tiredness and other people’s opinions, I actually love breastfeeding and don’t feel ready to stop and I don’t think he is either. So I’m genuinely curious, when did you know it was the right time to stop breastfeeding? Did your little one naturally wean, or did you decide when it was time?

Well done lovely video 👏👏 I'm so frustrated with the western world. I knew nothing of breastfeeding and ended up feeding my eldest til 5. Now currently tandem feeding my 2yo and newborn. Society is objectively wrong and it winds me upppp.

With my six kids, I breastfed my babies anywhere from 20 months to 4.5 years. All were babyled weaned. I tandem nursed #2 until 4 with #3 until 2. I was sad when baby #6, my last, weaned at 20 months...but that's the point of babyled weaning. ❤️

Yes, and prolonged breastfeeding has scientifically been shown to have health benefits for both the child and the mother. The benefits for the child include better craniofacial development, a stronger immune system, higher IQ, lower chance of becoming obese later in life.
