I just don’t do flashbacks. I’ve never seen a reason for them.

What if your book is non-linear and goes back and forth from present to past and vice versa?

Is 4 flashback chapters (out of 50 chapter) considered sparing?

I remember the deep by Nick Cutter had a lot of flashbacks but it worked because they were crucial for a central theme in the story – it features a contagious amnesia that the main character never gets. He’s envious because he wants to forget his past. It’s about how it feels like everyone moves on but him. He’s trapped in a horrible past

ha 🤣🤣🤣 half of my book are flashbacks but it's the main story the core, short flashbacks when needed,
and parallel long flashback that pushes the main story forward
