yes they were jealous so her husband went to war and basically all the men in town took advantage of her cause due to the war she couldnt feed herself had to sell herself just to eat women found out attack her ( very simple version)

The film is set during World War II, when the Germans were in Italy. Her husband was away fighting in the army, and she was left alone in her village. She struggled to make ends meet and gave her body to the German soldiers in exchange for money or other necessities. The other women in the village were already jealous of her, and when the war ended, they did this to her and to other women who had often been with the Germans: they shaved their heads and abused and humiliated them.
