It lies approximately 94 km from Donetsk, the regional capital, and had around 28,170 inhabitants in 2022. Its historical population peak was roughly 40,000 inhabitants. In September 2022, Russia declared the annexation of Donetsk Oblast, although Dobropolye itself remained under Ukrainian control.
