@justchrisbeasley: We have to be able to debunk the collectivist assertion that their worldview is the only worldview that matter. We can acknowledge the collectivist definition if they can acknowledge that it’s a cherry pick definition. #individualism #collectivism #racism
So basically , black people can be personally racist and not systematically racist

The term racism was invented in 1902, defined as systematic hatred between races (originally targeted towards native Americans). It was in 1970 that racism started being defined as power plus prejudice, meaning that it spent more time meaning a system of hatred than the later definition. Racist has always meant a personal belief of racial superiority or hatred.

I’ve never understood the whole black people cant be racist thing. It’s also the same argument some dark skin people use to say they can’t be colorist towards lighter skin tones

on top of everything you said, let's assume he's correct, racism must include systemic power to enforce racial prejudice. under the law (system/systemic power) white people have no power to enforce their racial prejudice, but DEI is an actual law that allows people of color to enforce racial prejudice against white people. by his definition, ONLY black people can be racist

Tim Wise said it best, “If it ends in “ism” then it almost always is two things; an ideology and/or system.” I think it’s valid to say anyone can be ideologically racist. There are also certain groups that don’t necessarily have the power to enforce said ideological beliefs. When we say, “black people cant be racist,” it comes from the belief that because we don’t have control of the system that we can’t be. I can be ideologically capitalist in Russia but I’m not getting far. However, racism is as much as an ideological and systemic issue. Sure ol boy can come to the conclusion that because racism as a system is an engine and the ideology as fuel, those who can’t operate said engine/system can’t be racist. HOWEVER, the fuel/ideology can still be poured out on the street and lit on fire. As you pointed out, many cherry pick aspects of definitions to better fit their own agenda.

what bugs me is he clearly grasps that the original speaker meant what he describes as race-based prejudice and instead responding to whether black people can display race-based prejudice (obviously yes) and whether or not that's a bad thing (same) he immediately pivots to the institutional power definition. why not answer the question you know the speaker's asking instead of telling him his question is wrong? drives me nuts

You articulated this very profoundly. Moving the goalposts on definitions of words is very common. Especially among words that end in ‘ism’, ‘ist’, or ‘phobia’. My hypothesis is that, in a world that monetizes victimhood, people find themselves trying to rationalize their feelings in a way that best aligns closest to that for a level of gain.

after watching this video, ngl, i agree with the other dude, your arguments aren't flawed by any means, but the black face shit really does prove his point. Like yeah, u can argue semantics on whether a black person doing white face is racist or prejudiced. But we definitely can't act like they are the same thing. Black face is most definitely worse, and it would be be racist if a white person did it regardless of the "institution", due to its historical application. A black person doing white face could be seen as something offensive, but it could also just not be taken seriously at all, because it has no weight over the white collective. But black face does the collective of black people, it has real effect. That's why I started to understand his definition of racism, like yes individually people are racist and individually they may not all think the same. But collectively, their actions still create a real world effect that harms others.
