I realized I imagine something down to the color and weeks or months later I have it in reality as an exact replica in my mind down to the color idk it’s so fun and strange at the same time 😭

Girl…I hear what you’re saying but your videos depressed me. I’m successful and have a family but my life has had a lot of trauma. Maladaptive dreaming has been my main way to cope and I think it’s healthier than, say, an alcohol addiction. As a child with no agency I only had my imagination to escape to or I wouldn’t have made it. As an adult I know I’ll never experience love or adoration from another adult (sorry but that’s the truth and whatever—that’s life) so my fantasies is where I go to be comforted. Maybe this is why people also have faith in religion—the base reality is terrible for some people. You need an escape or you can’t cope…

Thank you for this! I think you say it well, it’s a balancing act between trying to stay present, but also enjoying the way our minds can come up with these elaborate fantasies. Mine still protect me as an adult, they help me overcome boredom. The writing actually strted because I needed to give myself something enjoyable to do to fill up my time when I was in my twenties and living in a small town. I was like, hey, I have all these scenarios playing out in my head, I wonder if I could write a novel? Still my favorite way to entertain myself for hours!

I work as TV and film director (occasionally writer or producer) and yeah, this is my superpower. I didn't realize not everyone could vividly imagine like that. though I also have PTSD and OCD so my mind operates like a final destination movie generator

so true! i realized my maladaptive daydreaming was really my creativity but it felt like i had been living with a wild horse that i couldn't tame and that had over ran my life for a long time..but learning to be embodied was like taming the wild horse so that now i can actually ride the horse and control it... but it's still my horse..i can ride it whenever i want.. it just doesn't control me anymore..

Yeah I wanna learn how to not get stuck in it when my body feels a little stressed and goes okay checking out now 😅 like umm I need to function better and I can handle it now cause I'm an adult but my body is still stuck in fight or flight

My only gripe is the idea of “being gifted.” I’ve had a whole life as a creative professional, and everything creative is available to each and every one of us. Nothing is mysterious or unattainable, but it requires years of enthusiasm and discipline. And you may not be the World’s Greatest Writer/Musician/Artist, but being in the top 10% is absolutely doable. Aaaanyway… 😄

when I was young I made little figures with my hands and imagined that they where people and I made up all fake stories about them and then halfway in my story I realized what I was doing and I was embarrassed and hoped that nobody saw me doing weird moves with my hand.😂
