This hit me so hard, Ive been the cheerleader for both my elderly parents. My mom a stroke survivor and now fighting breast cancer and my dad on the start of his dementia. NONE of my friends have really been supportive or any of my siblings, just me, holding this fine string together, still working a full time job, being their for my parents, and finally adding me and starting to do the things I enjoy too.

So I did decorate my home but the weird thing is that now when I go to TJ Maxx or HomeGoods I don’t want to buy anything and I’ve been thinking about that. What happened to the me that used to buy things to decorate? It’s like I feel like why why buy more stuff. It’s like there was a weird shift that happened. My parents lived to be almost 100 and I’m only in my 60s but I just feel like yeah you don’t need any more things to decorate. It’s weird.

I’ve never heard anyone say that and immediately understood. I moved in a year ago this week and still have pictures in the floor and haven’t even made the bed in the guest room painted or anything and it was my dream home i wanted for so long.

🥲 Tears of happiness at seeing this because I know exactly how strong this statement is. I own my own house, but for three years, I can find myself to my bedroom and stopped decorating and barely cleaned. Now that my narcissistic ex is gone, I am able to reclaim my space and feel safe in my own house again.
