omg so after being fascinated with the sounds and doing quite a bit of investigation... i know It sounds like magic, but Japan’s station sounds are pure science! In 1989, JR East hired Yamaha composer Hiroaki Inoue and sound designer Minoru Mukaiya to replace stressful bell alarms with 7-second eki-melo melodies.... i mean thay used pentatonic scales and soft synths to avoid triggering the brain’s amygdala fight-or-flight lowering heart rates during rush hour... even crosswalks use acoustic engineering.. the National Police Agency introduced folk songs like Tōryanse in 1975 and bird calls 'cuckoo'/'piyo' in 2003 to guide pedestrians without harsh noise pollution. It’s literal nervous system regulation by design.. just really wanted to share this because incredibly fascinated with how my nervous system felt regulated when I was in japan , and this may be why.
