Destination weddings are the height of entitlement, expecting people to take an entire vacation for your one day.

I think you should give a gift if you are going - anything you want to give is okay. Also US weddings have become so expensive to attend as well!

Vanessa M :
My gift is my attendance. Sorry not sorry. If I’m spending $5K to celebrate you, that’s enough.

Both women make good points. I choose to bring a gift. It probably won't be an expensive gift, but I'm bringing something.

If I’m paying hundreds to thousands of dollars to attend your wedding, my presence is the gift. End of discussion 💀

If you have a destination wedding you are most certainly going to be getting fewer gifts or money at a much lesser amount. Comes with the territory

Destination weddings still cost money. Even when they’re at an all inclusive. I don’t think gifts should be the same amount as they would be for local weddings but i think a small amount or gift is the right thing to do. At the end of the day, the people attending are also enjoying a vacation.

Don’t expect a gift if people are paying hundreds or thousands to travel

If I have to travel to where your wedding is and you live in that vicinity, I wouldn’t consider that a destination, even if I don’t live there, but if you’re taking your entire wedding to a completely different place that everybody has to travel to and make it super inconvenient you’re not getting a gift.

I wouldn’t ask for gifts/make a registry if I was the couple, and if I was the guest I wouldn’t show up empty handed.

My gift is my attendance if it’s anywhere outside of the US

I was raised that way too, but my parents didn’t get invited to multiple destination weddings a year when they were my age and it was far more common to say no to going if you couldn’t afford it. When my cousin got married in South Africa my parents who looooove to give a gift were like, uh no. We are not contributing to a honeymoon fund after paying over 5k for this wedding

I’m American and live in London so most of the weddings I go to are destination for me, and I gifted all my friends presents. When I got married this summer and they all had to travel for me, very few gifted back..

I didn’t ask for a gift at my wedding ESPECIALLY if they traveled.
