I almost dropped out of engineering because of Calc 2. I can’t believe I almost missed out on this career...all because of math that has nothing to do with the actual job. I failed it freshman year. Took it again sophomore year, and got a 32 on the first midterm after studying my ass off. I remember calling my parents saying I was done. I thought I wasn’t smart enough for engineering. I didn’t like the stuff I was learning. I didn’t know if I even wanted to be an engineer, I just knew I wanted a degree that led to a stable, high-paying job. But that was enough. I lived in the basement of the math building that semester until I figured it out. Passed with a B. I still questioned myself for the next few years, but eventually I found the kind of engineering I actually enjoy. I haven’t thought about Calc 2 since. I’ve designed systems across the country, working a dream job that pays well and lets me work anywhere. Don’t let school make you think you’re not cut out for this.
