@tootall2function: We’ve had a lot of really bad days the last few weeks. Me going on vacation for a week has changed everything. I know a large part of it is the stroke he had right before I left, but it is getting so hard to want to be there all the time when he is so miserable. I’m really hoping the new medication can help to bring him out of the darkness he is experiencing. I love him and miss my best friend 😭😭😭 #seniorcare #volunteer #MentalHealth #caregiver #fyp

Baby.. I hate to say this but I think you should consider cutting ties and allowing others to care for him. 😔

I am NOT trying to be hateful. What you have done for this man is absolutely beautiful and has to have earned you the biggest mansion when you get to heaven, BUT, you are probably getting a window into why he has been abandoned by everyone else. You can only do so much before this is going to wear you down to the point it’s going to affect you more than it is helping him and you don’t deserve that. We can all only handle so much and NO ONE deserves to have to continually be subjected to being hurt and made uncomfortable. You are eventually going to get to the end of your rope. You cannot destroy yourself trying to save him. 💞

Here’s the thing, he’s not in a right mind. So while it makes sense to you, he likely will never actually grasp what you’re saying. I went through this with my grandma when she had dementia. It was like Groundhog Day every day. I had to reexplain stuff every single day. There’s no retention. I know you love your sweet boy, but he needs professional help. You have done everything to save him, you have to save yourself too though.

Oh honey! Unfortunately this will only escalate. I see so much of my journey to care for my Father who had very similar health issues. He needed a roommate to survive and it never worked out because he would always cross the line. I hope you find some help very soon.

I think maybe a mental health counselor would be beneficial for your sweet friend.

i think its time for you to stop bathing him and pass the torch. these romantic feelings and hurt in regards to you are going to be are going to be around for a long time most likely regardless of any conversations you've had with him.

Maybe get him into a day program a couple days a week so he can meet others & not be dependent just on you 💕🌺💕🌺

I am in NO way saying he deserved to live like he did, but maybe the reason he had no one was because they didn't have the room on their plate for him. It sounds like a lot, and maybe they need grace, too. All around, it's sad for everyone involved.

In all honesty, if he has feelings for you, I don’t think you should be giving him a shower that seems like that would be crossing the line

He needs to be evaluated for vascular dementia which can often be a result of a stroke.

Babe, I know how much you care about him but maybe it is time to either have someone with you or have a male change him and bathe him. I would even think having someone with you all the time might be a good idea. This could turn very quickly.

I agree he needs a mental health evaluation. He might be sundowning at night. Also, maybe you can get an aid in there that can do his showers that will put you on a different level with him preferably a male once a week tell him the doctor ordered it.

It does sound like the stroke changed him. My MIL turned really mean after hers. We also found out she still had a bad bleed. Hugs to you.

It’s ok if dementia changes your relationship. You can’t keep looking for the dynamic you used to have. Set boundaries and don’t do the tasks that make you uncomfortable
