When I worked with racehorses I observed behaviour like this frequently. Yong fit horses....trapped in a stable for most of the day. Makes sense....

Ariel used to consistently lip flap, it was always just her 'quirk', be it ridden or on the ground... guess what? She doesn't lip flap now and if she does we know somethings seriously wrong, nothing funny about it. If the horse has got to that point they're showing these type of behaviours, their stress levels need to be seriously looked at.

tbh the owner is pretty good at turning out her horses and welfare etc.....that one is a stud he's housed off-site at a different facility ...but she might of brought him back home due to him finishing the breeding season 🤷 so it might just be boredom

I have a pony who does similar to this, she shakes her head and smacks her lips, (no tongue involved and no massive head shaking) she started it after living with another horse who did it out of stress. (Horse spent too much time stabled honestly mine didn’t but this was in turnout she learnt it) and it’s random when she does it, and rarely these days. if it went to this extent I would instantly panic because what the hell is that?! 😳😳😳😳 that horse is not a happy relaxed horse wtf
