@therisingproject: The monarchs hatching in Michigan right now are the ones that make the whole trip — nearly 3,000 miles to the oyamel fir forests in Michoacán. They live around eight months instead of the usual few weeks, purely to get there. Every generation before them lived and died within a few hundred miles of here. And this is what fuels it. Zinnias, cosmos, anything still blooming in late August. If you plant nothing else for pollinators, plant zinnias — they're cheap, they're easy from seed, and they're a gas station on a 3,000 mile flight. #monarchbutterfly #monarchmigration #zinnias #pollinatorgarden #gardentok
