Premier Realty - Ibadan :
Please, don’t try this without properly understanding the implications.
1. It can amount to subletting. If your tenancy agreement doesn’t permit it, you may be breaching the agreement and could face whatever penalty applies if the landlord or property manager finds out. Always get the landlord’s express consent in writing.
2. Sharing an apartment can create serious conflicts. Especially among students issues like water, electricity bills, cleaning, hygiene, visitors and noise can easily lead to disagreements and even fights.
3. What happens when your tenancy expires? For example, you rent a 3-bedroom apartment in January and your rent expires in December, but the people you sublet the other rooms to have different expiry dates. If you decide to relocate or don’t renew, what happens to those occupants?
4. Who bears the responsibility? If an occupant damages the property, refuses to pay, violates the house rules or causes a problem, the landlord will likely hold the person whose name is on the tenancy agreement responsible which is you.
The idea may sound like a way to reduce the stress and cost of house hunting, but without proper consent, documentation and a clear management structure, you may simply be transferring the housing problem to yourself.
Good intention, but this needs to be explained with the legal and practical realities.
