You can now get AI and other nonsense inside the default Notepad on Windows, but things didn’t use to be that bloated. And one intrepid developer had enough and decided to bring the original Microsoft Word over to Windows 11. The OG was built for a 16 bit setup, so Word for Windows 1.1a needed to be reconfigured for x64 systems, and it does that pretty seamlessly. 7 megabytes of source code is available on the COmputer History Museum’s website if you want to revisit all that time you spent in the computer lab as a child, grandpa.
