Yes yes yes and soooo many women enable those men and excuse their behavior. I’m so so sorry you went through this. I was groomed by my father figure and assaulted. His wife blamed me and stayed married to him.

my first (worse? hard to quantify) ex, truly went off the rails because his mom died of cancer - I met him after the death of his mom. I think she wore down from decades of managing him and protecting him from his consequences. my second ex, his mom is alive, but similarly, it's the two of them against the world. she was kind to me sort of, but remarkably unhelpful when he started to really turn abusive - it happened in a way where he was weaponizing his own poor mental health (like id have to take off work or perform poorly at work because he had a bad mental health week and would spend it wailing about how he wanted to "end" but would resist any attempts to help. and also resented that I was concerned with maintaining my job performance during it. his mom just kind of threw up her hands and was like "oh no what do we do...". about a year before we split though, I confided in her explicitly about some of his blow ups and she told me I should leave her son. something about the way she said it though made me rebound against it, which frustrates me thinking about it. it came off in a "discarding" tone my ex had always said he felt from his mom so when I heard it from her I dug in my heels and ended up staying another year 🤦. what I can say though - I ended up eventually with a really kind and wonderful partner, who also has a kind and wonderful mother and I am so grateful that Ive got her now. she's like a second mom to me.

I always think about a time I was in public with my mom wearing stage makeup from a dance event, and she approvingly pointed out that men were looking at me. I was 14.

They use us as a means to end their sense of powerless momentarily. They hate women. So many men do, secretly & outwardly. I find it interesting that the same men who would never disrespect another man, have no problem screaming in my face.
