With this description, it must’ve been the guy in the Christmas episode who yells “Is there a man in that couch??”

I get both sides, but its on Glenn as the writer and creator to explain to the actor what type of cue to go on

So, the cast is riffing through a scene, and an extra with lines is uncomfortable with that because he’s afraid his lines will get cut, so he stops the whole production and makes it about himself. If so, Glenn was way more polite than he needed to be.

There is an ocean of difference between "I'm having trouble figuring out my cues because of the improv, and I need help" and "I need you to say the lines."

For those defining the actor the correct way to say this would be “hey I’m a little confused about when I’m supposed to come in”

The appropriate course of action would have been to make a different cue for the other actor to say their lines. Like, I get what Glenn is saying here but 100% HE would be the one bitching if they had a guest actor that was OVER-improving. It’s unreasonable to just expect someone who has no experience working with you to just get in sync with you and the way you do things. It CAN happen, of course, but not often. As a show runner, as a writer, as ‘the guy’, he should have found a different solution besides telling him ‘we’re not saying the lines’. THAT’S what is ‘Dennis’ about it: just disregarding what the other person was saying and EXPECTING them to get on board eventually.

so, you create the show, you write the lines for the show, you cast an actor to play the part and say the lines, when that actor, as you say, non aggressively asks you to say the lines because he's a professional, that's a problem?

Idk i get that nobody can MAKE him say the lines because it’s his show, but if the guy has specific lines it kinda seems like you should either give him a note on what to look for to cue him in or let him know you want him to improv. To just say “no, you can’t make me” seems a bit like you’re just sabotaging your own scene to feel powerful against an extra lol

I love always sunny and I love Glenn, but if you are writing a scene entirely based around improv and hiring an actor who may not be well versed in that, you need to stick to some sort of cues or ideas that they can understand to continue moving the scene forward. Being famous and the creator of a show does not absolve you of responsibility of having to help coach and/or relieve you of any sort of professionalism regarding said scene. Glenn should know better.
