@zacharyheath21: Marsha Blackburn didn't single-handedly create the opioid crisis but Tennessee deserves an honest conversation about the role her decisions played in it. While communities across our state were being devastated by prescription opioids, Blackburn helped advance legislation that made it harder for the DEA to immediately stop suspicious drug shipments. At the same time, pharmaceutical interests were contributing to her campaigns. Then came the other side of the cycle. Addiction leads to arrests. Arrests lead to incarceration. Families are torn apart. And now, private-prison interests have financially supported the political operation surrounding Blackburn. Think about that cycle: Big Pharma → opioids → addiction → incarceration → private prisons → political money. These aren't abstract policy debates. These decisions have consequences for real Tennesseans people who became addicted, people who were incarcerated, children who lost parents, and families that may never fully recover. If we're going to talk about solving Tennessee's opioid and incarceration crises, we also need to talk about the politicians who helped shape the systems that got us here. Accountability starts with following the record and following the money.
