Urology resident here - this is NOT the correct way to place a catheter. Just feeling resistance is NOT the indication to inflate the catheter balloon. Resistance usually means the catheter is at the prostate, and inflating the balloon at this point would cause trauma to the uretha and the prostate which would result in significant bleeding. In a male patient, you should only inflate the balloon once you’ve completely hubbed the catheter in and have seen urine draining through the catheter.
