@darrenfrancisfinance: 8/16: A PBS Station is at risk of losing 50TB of data spanning 70 years of programming after their cloud storage provider ghosted them. #pbs #technews #datacenter #breakingnews
I mean wtf? We're talking just 50 GB, which fits happily on a NAS. Or costs pennies to store on Filecoin per month, and they couldn't be bothered to store it in *two* locations? 😂😂😂

This feels intentional with the way these administrations have been being about PBS.

Don't worry. old PBS shows are all the same you can AI generate new episodes by just prompting. Does anyone really know which bob ross episode it was where he painted that landscape? that's right no one.

50 terabytes??? That’s it??? I have a 32 TB RAID drive on my desktop and it’s fully backed up. PBS is staffed by amateurs.

HDDs come in 26 TB. Just get 4 of them. Then store the back up copy in the same boxes they came in. Keep one copy in a computer. Don't access unless needed, check every few weeks. I can do that on a modern desktop computer. Add another copy on new drives, even if unused, every ten years. 🐧

you only have contractual obligations to access your data when you subscribe to cloud service, you actually do not know that data. I've been in the it field for 40 years and I was preaching this 25 plus years ago.

50TB should be self hosted. Cloud should just remain a backup.
