I worked at a full livery setting before, and I understood it completely. But what I didn’t like is the owners would turn up to just ride. And by just ride I mean just ride. Horse would be groomed & tacked and taken down to the school for you, then we would collect the horse after the ride to do all the untacking etc. baffled me

If you go to the yard every day, why wouldn’t you just look after your horse rather than pay for it? Most people that horses work full-time and most people do get up at 4/5am because they need to before work, that’s sort of the reality of owning a horse most people? You’re completely entitled to whatever Livery you like. It’s highly likely that people will disapprove of part/ full Livery because there is a certain level of dedication that it doesn’t allow you to have, ultimately other people are looking after your horse. it’s completely personal preference. personally I don’t want other people looking after my horse if I chose to have a horse it’s my job to look after it but not everyone is able to do that. Livery is expensive part/full Livery is very expensive so there will be a some jealousy that you can afford it where other people just simply can’t even if they wanted to. people may also see it as you being a bit of a cop out to some people, you have to do the hard work, the looking after the horse to get the pleasure of having a relationship with them and being able to ride, but it is what it is and you’ve choosen what’s right for you. It just felt that you needed it explaining because maybe you didn’t understand.

as someone who is DIY/part livery it does not make a difference, however it does differ the time you spend with your horse

Some people just don’t have the time in the morning before work to feed/turn out/muck out and that’s totally okay, “oh wake up earlier than” if your already starting work at 6am you don’t wanna have to sort out a horse at like 4-5 am depending on the distance to the yard. Everyone knows what it’s like to be tired after a long day at work aswell

I share a horse who is at a diy livery yard / farm and it hard work but it means the owners are always on the yard helping out and it’s a great bunch of people so I would vote diy

Once you’ve done DIY you’ll never want to go back to full!! Unless you’re really lucky and have a good full livery yard but in my experience there is no substitute for doing your horse yourself how you want and on your terms 💕

Even if you did have the time to do DIY and didn’t want to that’s completely ok. As long as your horse is being looked after and is thriving it shouldn’t matter who’s doing it. This community always wants something to complain about
