The character Winston is expressing this view, not Orwell speaking directly. And the irony is that Winston himself is a critic of the Party, he believes he can recognize its propaganda and resist it. Julia then completely complicates his assumptions about women: she is also a rebel against the Party, and the two become partners in resisting it. But the point of the novel is ultimately that none of us are as immune to propaganda and psychological manipulation as we think we are. Winston is tortured, psychologically broken, and ultimately brainwashed into accepting the very system he once hated. Julia is similarly broken, and by the end, their relationship and their resistance have been destroyed. So if you take Winston’s statement about women out of context and present it as Orwell’s conclusion about women, you’re actually missing the irony of the entire novel. The book is about how propaganda, authoritarianism, and control can distort anyone’s perception, including the person who thinks they are smart enough to see through it. Ironically, this video demonstrates one of two things: either you’re deliberately using a passage out of context to spread divisive propaganda, or you’re repeating a claim without actually engaging with what the book is saying. Either way, the irony is pretty hard to miss.

This video seems to criticize propaganda while using some of the same persuasive techniques itself. It also presents ‘women are more susceptible to propaganda’ as a premise rather than actually proving it.

Did you read the book? The character he is referring to in that line turned out to be someone who was fighting the party.

Tell me you didn’t actually read the book without telling me. Winston (the character you’re quoting) is a misogynist, he spends a significant amount of time wishing he’d killed Katharine.

what about the emotional manipulation of men as well? why is female emotional manipulation greater than male emotional manipulation? men can get passionately supportive of an anger provoking and fear mongering campaign just as a woman (or man) could be "manipulated" by compassion. Men are just as emotional as women and thats the flaw of this outlook. they may be raised to value different emotions over others, but the idea of emotion guiding decisons can be found vastly across both men and women dominated political parties.

that's Winston the character that said that. A character saying that =/= the author saying that.

It’s literally in Genesis. Eve was easily deceived and corrupted, however, Adam should not have listened to her and he should have protected her.

After seeing men following movements like Andrew Tate's—among many others—I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not just women. We’re all a bit weak-minded.

I’m a woman and I am much older then most on this app and I can say I’ve watched, even been apart of at times, this exact thing. I’ve watched it play out generation after generation. If women could just take a step back and not look at it through the lens of it being progressive, but from a lens of manipulation, they’d see a very different picture then the feminism they think they’re apart of.
