There is something about 3am with a baby that nobody could have prepared me for. Like yes, people warned me I’d be tired 😂 They told me newborns wake up constantly. They told me I’d live in pajamas. They told me I’d drink cold coffee and forget what day it was. Nobody really explained the loneliness though. The other night it was 3:33am and I was sitting in the nursery holding my sleeping baby. And technically… everything was fine. Baby was finally asleep. The house was quiet. I should’ve felt relieved. Instead I remember looking around the room and having this overwhelming feeling of like… is anyone else even awake right now?? 🥺 My husband was sleeping. The neighbors’ houses were dark. No cars outside. No texts coming in. Nothing. It felt like the entire world had gone to sleep and somehow I was the only person left awake. And that sounds SO dramatic at noon 😂 but if you’ve been awake with a baby at 3am, you know exactly what I mean. Nighttime makes everything feel bigger. The exhaustion. The anxiety. The “am I doing this right?” The wondering if the baby is eating enough. The googling things you absolutely should not be googling when you’re sleep deprived 😭 The staring at the clock calculating how much sleep you could technically get if the baby stayed asleep RIGHT NOW. It’s such a weird combination because you can be holding the person you love most in the entire world and still feel unbelievably alone. That night I ended up looking at my phone while I was waiting to make sure the baby was REALLY asleep before attempting the crib transfer 😂 And I opened this map. I had seen it before but never really looked at it in the middle of the night. There were little lights everywhere. Each one was another mom awake. Not profiles. Not influencers posting perfect morning routines lol. Actual moms awake RIGHT THEN. Feeding. Pumping. Rocking. Trying to get their baby back to sleep. Scrolling because they needed something to keep their eyes open. And then I noticed something else. I looked out the window and saw a couple random bedroom lights glowing in houses down the street. For some reason that absolutely got me. 🥹 Because suddenly I realized… I wasn’t the only light on. Maybe one of those windows was another mom. Maybe she was bouncing a baby around her bedroom wondering why he wouldn’t sleep. Maybe she was pumping while watching some random show with the volume on 2 😂 Maybe she was crying. Maybe she was totally fine and just exhausted. Maybe she was staring out HER window wondering if anyone else was awake too. I’ll obviously never know. But looking back at that map and seeing hundreds of little lights made something click in my brain. There is basically this whole invisible world of moms awake while everyone else sleeps. We just normally can’t see each other. And idk… there was something really comforting about that. ❤️ It didn’t make my baby sleep longer. It didn’t magically make me less tired. It definitely didn’t stop me from completely botching the crib transfer 11 minutes later 😂😭 But I felt less alone. That mattered way more than I expected. Motherhood can be SO loud during the day. Someone always needs you. There are bottles and laundry and appointments and diapers and dishes and texts you forgot to answer three days ago 😂 Then nighttime comes and suddenly everything goes silent. And sometimes that silence is really freaking lonely. So now when I’m awake at some ridiculous hour, I think about all those little lights. Another mom in another house whispering “pleaseeeee stay asleep” while slowly lowering a baby into a crib 😂 Another mom pumping. Another mom feeding. Another mom watching the clock. Another mom just trying to make it to morning. And somehow knowing they’re out there makes my own little light feel less lonely. 🥹💛 So if it’s 3am where you are and your house is dark except for one tiny lamp… look around. You might feel like the only light still on. But you’re definitely not. ❤️ #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
