Wu had gained a large following on Chinese social media by climbing skyscrapers without safety equipment, performing handstands and push-ups on ledges hundreds of meters above the ground. That day, he was attempting one more video challenge, which would be his last. Security camera footage later recovered from a nearby camera showed Wu placing his cell phone on a tripod before climbing the rooftop barrier. While hanging from the ledge, he tried to pull himself up, but lost his grip after a few seconds of struggling. His fall, estimated at over 79 meters, was not witnessed in person. The recording remained on his device until it was recovered by building staff days later. Wu's girlfriend told reporters that the stunt was part of a sponsored competition that offered approximately US$15,000 to the winner. He planned to use the money to fund his wedding and help his mother with medical expenses. His d€ath sparked outrage in the Chinese media, where authorities condemned the growing trend of "rooftop climbing" that has spread across major cities through viral videos on social media. Police classified the incident as an accidental d€ath caused by unsafe behavior, and the footage was never officially released to the public.
