At no point does it say it goes to the staff as extra, I think the wording is something like “the overall compensation package” which I read as salary.

Fun fact - I bring 200-300 cash and tip the staff I use on day one / day two, better service all well then little more at the end.

They use the prepaid gratuities to pay the employees salary, they don’t get not 1 penny more than their contacted rate. They don’t splint the gratuity like they say they do they literally use it to pay their base salaries

Not paying gratitude is no longer optional thank goodness ... for all those people who tried to get out of it! We not only pay the gratuities ... we bring about $300 extra in cash, and on the last night we walk around and hand it out to our favorite people with a thank you note. kindness goes a long way.

never pay gratuities... always pay cash tips! the cruise line uses it to supplement the payroll. I bring my cabin stewy gifts for each day plus a nice tip at end of cruise. tip waiters directly n bar servers etc.

You don’t have to prepay the gratuities. They will just charge you daily on the cruise. I don’t buy that they called you asking you to pay them. We have never prepaid.

Found out recently that when you cancel prepaid gratuities and tell them you will tip cash, they automatically input the assumed tip you left, so they can be taxed on it. Much like a waitress. So if you cancel the gratuities, you are ONLY screwing the workers.

Don’t forget to go to guest services the second you are on board and remove the gratuities from your room because same situation there. I always tip my room attendant upfront so that he/she knows I’m not stiffing because they can see if you remove your “gratuities”

Yep I asked too. They said it doesn’t go to them and when you give even an EXTRA tip on any food bill. It goes to the cruise line. I took a bunch of $5s and $10s and gave a tip every time we ate at the restaurant, got drinks and tip your room attendant. Always give cash. I went a took the gratuities off the night before we disembarked. If you do it before that they will still charge you and you will still have to go wait in line to get it taken off.

I just booked a casino cruise and when the agent gave me the price it included the gratuities and travel insurance. This has never happened before. I kindly asked her to remove both 🫤

I can only speak about NCL cause I worked there. Bar dept do gets a ton of gratuities cause there's a 20% added automatic to the check. it gets split between the bar tender, the bar waiter and the company keeps the rest.
