@nealkshah: There is a strength training "sweet spot" for a longer life, and more is not better. A major study of nearly 150,000 people followed for up to 30 years, from researchers at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, found that about 90 to 120 minutes of strength training a week was linked to a 13% lower risk of dying from any cause, a 19% lower risk of dying from heart disease, and a striking 27% lower risk of dying from neurological conditions like dementia. Here is the key part: the benefits leveled off after two hours a week, so grinding out endless gym sessions did not add extra years. That is great news if you are busy, since two short sessions a week can get you there, using simple moves like squats, wall push-ups, or a resistance band at home. Pairing strength work with regular walking or other cardio appears to push the benefit even further. It matters most as we age, because we naturally lose muscle after 50, and muscle is what keeps us strong, steady, and independent. Follow for more longevity science made simple, and share this with someone over 50. #StrengthTraining #Longevity #HealthyAging #aging

If you’re doing nothing, just start doing something, no matter how little. If you’re doing only a little, try doing a little bit more. Gradually you increase and can get to a strong routine without getting overwhelmed by the thought of having to “do a regular workout”

It’s important to sweat a couple of times per week as well. The question is not how long did you work out. The question is did you sweat and for how long?

I do three 30 minute sessions with a trainer each week. The trainer keeps my form correct which is important the older you get to prevent injury. Also combine additional cardio several times a week.

Thank you Neil for sharing this info. I'm on the right track. I'm doing 120 mins a week one rest day. I built a low weight high rep 20 min routine for upper 3x a week and 20min for lower body. I am so much stronger than I was 5 months ago!
