this may be a hot take but i hate when people have sympathy for frank. he didn’t love his kids cuz he never made an effort to change for them. yes he had a troubled childhood but that’s no excuse to act like an asshole. he had 5 kids who raised themselves and were brought up by an older sister who eventually fell victim to the situation. he never was a father and was selfish the entire series. this applies to real life too, just cuz u have a bad childhood thats no excuse for acting like an asshole and not getting help.

In Shameless, they said Frank was as smart as Lip before Monica, and I just wish they would’ve shown more of his backstory. Like, I wanna know who Frank was before Monica and what happened that made them become the way they were. 😭 I feel like there’s so much of his story we never got to see

I’m still so mad that he was legitimately a genius, and wasted it. But that’s what makes the show so good. Shows the harsh realities of addiction and how any one can fall to it, easily.

He was a grown man that was able to make his own choices even after Monica left him. He didn’t have to abandon his kids, he picked that life for himself. He didn’t love his kids enough to change or to want change.

I hated that man but his last 7 minutes kinda made me realize he was just a kid who never even had a chance, like so many others in the show. It's not an excuse, but it's definitely a reason. A part of him did want to be good, but that part was constantly being drowned in liquor.
