Many of us will spend hours learning everything about a celebrity, athlete, musician, or public figure. We know their birthday, their story, their struggles, their favorite things, and the details of their life. Yet we may say we love Jesus while barely spending time learning who He is. That contrast hits hard. According to the New Testament, Christian faith isn't built around the idea that Jesus simply gave people good advice. Romans 5:8 teaches that Christ died for humanity even while people were still sinners. That means, from a Christian perspective, His love wasn't based on whether we had earned it. Jesus also taught that the greatest expression of love is being willing to lay down your life for someone else. John 15:13 connects that kind of sacrifice directly with love. And then comes one of the simplest lines in Scripture: “We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 That changes the question. Instead of asking, “Why should I love Jesus?” Maybe the question is: How could I understand how deeply He loves me and remain unchanged by it? We can feel devastated when someone on Earth dies because suddenly there’s no more time. No more concerts. No more interviews. No more opportunities to appreciate them while they're here. But Christians believe Jesus is still calling people into a relationship with Him right now. There is still time to pray. Still time to learn. Still time to forgive. Still time to come back. Still time to say, “Jesus, I want to know You—not just know about You.” Maybe that's the part worth thinking about today. We already know our hearts are capable of incredible love.
