@goatcult.media: On November 28, 2023, Baldwin County deputies went to a home in Georgia after the victim’s aunt reported that her 33-year-old niece may have been held against her will. When deputies arrived, they noticed a strong odor coming from a locked bedroom. Inside they found the woman curled up in a chair in a fetal position, severely malnourished and living in extremely poor conditions. The investigation eventually focused on Bobbie Jo Barber and Jerry Kenneth Barber III, who were responsible for supervising the woman. Prosecutors accused the pair of depriving her of necessary food and care to the point that her health was put at risk. Court records also alleged that she had been confined against her will. A Baldwin County grand jury later indicted both Barbers on multiple charges involving neglect and exploitation of a disabled adult and false imprisonment. The indictment describes allegations, and the charges themselves do not establish guilt. But the condition authorities say they found the victim in turned what started as a concerned family member’s call into a serious criminal investigation.
