I truly had no idea this was an issue until my 9 year old won a hermit crab at our county fair yesterday. The girl we met today at petco sent me to your page, and has two crabs herself and was able to educate us on how to hopefully keep our little crab alive for a long time. I had no clue what we were taking on, but I’m trying my best. Ours is in a beta fish tank right now until I can find an affordable 10 gal tank. Thank you for all of your information

i’ve gotten hermit crabs as a kid from the beach. my mom also had them as class pets for her pre-k kids! we always took the best care of them that we knew how too. i recently won some at a state fair game, and have been following your account on how to take better care of them then i did before. thank you for posting these types of videos and advocating for these little guys!

My almost 6 year old is OBSESSED with hermit crabs at our local pet store (their tank is like yours), but I’m so intimidated by their care and I’ve been told that they stink, is that true?

Ive never been a big fan of the beach so I’ve only been to em a handful of times in my 30 years, but I had no clue this was a thing!! I didn’t know they sold hermit crabs like that, this is so sad.

I bought 2 with natural shells, I felt so guilty leaving them there, so I took them home, they eat good food, and have a nice big 10 gallon tank.

Ik I get them one year at the beach. I keep them at home and my proper tank for a year and then I released him back to the beach next time I go and get two new ones.
