@the.nikkah.journal: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The strong is not the one who overcomes people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger." (Bukhari 6114, Muslim 2609) Most of us grew up with a different definition. The strong one doesn't back down. The strong one gets the last word. The Prophet ﷺ measures it by what you can hold back. Think of the moment right before you say something you can't take back to your spouse. Heart racing, the perfect cutting line already sitting on your tongue. That's the moment this hadith is talking about. Anyone can win an argument with the person they married. It takes nothing to raise your voice, bring up the past, say the thing you know will land. But you only get to pick one. Win the argument, or win the person. Ego pulls you to the first. Love asks for the second, especially on the days you're certain you're right. You were made garments for each other. Something that covers and shields, not something that tears at the first pull. It shows up in ordinary places. The comment that stings. The silence that gets read wrong. The tone left over from a hard day, spent on the one person who didn't cause it. Notice he ﷺ didn't say the strong one is patient, or calm. He said he controls himself. A choice you make in the worst possible second, with your spouse watching you make it. 🤍 Three ways to try this week: Catch the moment your voice wants to rise at home, and lower it instead. When you want to drag up something old to win, leave it in the past. After the anger passes, go back and check on your spouse. Repair the moment instead of walking away from it. 🤍 Save this for the next disagreement. Send it to someone building a marriage where strength means staying gentle. #muslimsinuk #muslimsinamerica #muslimsincanada
