Also like if you want to justify having female space marine characters in a lore friendly way and don't feel like going this route there's a pretty easy one. We know that it's not unheard of for space marines to get cosmetic medical treatments and we also know that trans people are understood and tolerated in imperial society. About 2% of people irl are trans so in a full strength chapter that's like 20 marines. That doesn't necessarily mean those marines are all women tho, you could have a few Battle-Siblings in there too

I always kinda figured that the Astartes conversion process was so traumatic that calling a full space marine “he/him” was a generosity at best and a means of placating the mortals at worst

One thing that doesn't leave my mind is the question: What about trans space marines? Do trans women space marines lose the ability to handle the space marine organs and as a result, just shut down, when using HRT/something grimdark sci-fi similar? But should they not use HRT, do they simply continue to exist? Or what about trans men space marines? Could a trans man simply medically transition as part of his transformation into a space marine? And if so, that would be badass. "I came out of my shell to serve the emperor better than I could when I was living my life as a lie." or something like that would be such an awesome line drop. I get if they just stayed in the closet because of the empire's oppressive stance of basically everything, but what about the Chaos Space marines then? At least they could come out of the closet, even without using something similar to HRT as trans women/trans fem individuals of other genders. Because even if we agreed that HRT causes trans fem space marines to shut down and trans masc space marines aren't possible either because of the strain on the female body. At least being a closeted trans fem space marine should be possible. And maybe that whole internal conflict between repression and embracing your truth causes them to fall to Chaos. There are so many options and GW simply ignores them. Not just for inclusion but for needing new ideas for stories without changing the status quo.
