Chelle :
I was there to celebrate the birthday of my late mother, whose middle name was Evelyn. I wanted the evening to feel special, and unfortunately, my experience was vastly different from what I had anticipated.
We were seated just before 7:00 p.m. in an area that honestly felt like an afterthought, facing what appeared to be a side bar. From there, the service became the biggest disappointment of the evening. We did not leave until approximately 9:45 p.m. The pace was painfully slow, and we were told more than once that someone from management would come to our table to apologize for the lengthy wait. No one ever came.
Toward the end of dinner, after we had clearly said that we were finished and did not want dessert, our waitress continued to push dessert and actually placed dessert plates on the table. After nearly three hours, we were ready to leave, and it felt less like hospitality and more like our wishes simply weren’t being heard.
The atmosphere was also not at all what I expected. Based on Evelyn’s image and reputation, I anticipated an elevated, sophisticated environment. Instead, the dress code—if there is one—appeared to be largely unenforced. There were guests in extremely casual and revealing attire, men with untucked shirts, and an overall atmosphere that felt much less polished than what I had expected. I
Even the restroom experience took away from the evening. Several guests were conducting what seemed like full photo shoots in front of the mirrors without much regard for other women trying to use the space, and there was loud conversation filled with profanity. Of course a restaurant cannot control every word or action of its guests, but taken together with everything else, it contributed to an atmosphere that simply did not feel like the upscale experience Evelyn appears to market.
I do want to give credit where it is deserved: the food was delicious. Unfortunately, excellent food alone could not overcome the extremely slow service, disappointing seating, lack of management follow-through and atmosphere.
