I see so many people on this post arguing that this is only Pakistani culture but in reality it’s all of North india as well not just Punjab; as well as some parts of south india. Jumkas and Maang tika originated in the Chola dynasty in South India. The Passa/Jhoomar (the jewelry worn on the side of the head) originated in the mughal era and was popularized by the Nizams in Hyderabad South india. Ghararas originated In lucknow, not Punjab, and were popularized by the Nawabs. Shararas were invented in the Mughal royal courts in Delhi. Lengha Choli originated in ancient vedic times as unstiched 3 piece garments. Kathak is a dance form that comes from Uttar Pradesh as well and was used to tell stories through dance. kathak coming from the sanskrit word kathakars (story tellers) A lot of south asian culture comes from modern day india and it’s a shame seeing so many Pakistanis denying it and acting entitled as if they exclusively own the culture.
