@ariavelz: The End of Oak Street will be a good enough dinosaur action thriller, but it’s also a reflection of the nebulous state of what it means to be a neighbor in the face of danger. #theendofoakstreet #film #movie #letterboxd
I kept wondering if the neighbors would band together and maybe increase their chances of survival... but I actually like that the movie was like "no way you can survive this mess" 😄

I remember working as an HOA inspector as a summer job. And let me tell you the promise of caring for thy neighbor is a myth. So many people just lived in squaller because nobody would stop by to check on them. Even when their yards became jungles.

I was thinking about this during the movie, I was sitting there astounded more people weren’t trying to help each other. It starts so early too when the parents are being chased and see the family getting in their car unaware of the situation, they don’t say anything.

Definitely got some strong climate change themes too and how people respond to it.

I loved the small moment with the librarian, though, where the family is surrounded by the pseudosuchians, Denise is about to sacrifice herself for her children, and then Mrs. Valcourt comes out of hiding, shoots one, and gives them all the opportunity to run as the rest go to kill her.

But if they got out of the worm hole wouldn’t they continue to that over and over and then there would be multiple of the same family?

I love when movies critique suburbia. “Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” and the original “Halloween” are the only ones I can think of right now.

You have 20 minutes to warn everyone in a 2 mile radius of your house to leave. How are you gonna do it, even with social media? What I don't get is how did she remember her neighbors phone numbers to call them.

Exactly my thoughts about this movie. Taking the Dad, making it less likely for their other selves to survive really ruined it for me. Why was it played like an uncomplicated happy ending? 😭 Changed my rating from 4 to 2.5. It’s like a horror movie that doesn’t know it is one

i think the movie wanted to have that message but it really didn’t have many clear plot points about it

David Robert Mitchell can’t help himself but talk about the lies we’re told. It Follows is about love and sexuality, Under the Silver Lake is about the lie young boys tell themselves to contend with their loneliness and potential for evil, and this one is about the lie of the nuclear family and marriage itself, while still celebrating the great sacrifices that good parents make
