@jenna_gardner_ai: Replying to @mcdoleey we need more folks with leading AI with non-technical backgrounds but high AI fluency #ai #leadership #nontechnicaltech #Tech #career
You don’t need to be technical when AI can tell you how to implement the tech side anyway or partner with tech teams to set things up. You need good ideas, an understanding of how agents can do what you need, a comfort level with the unknown and the patience to figure it out with the tool itself. Just started building a deck (with AI) to sell my use cases to the gate keeper in my firm as a non tech leader to get access to the right tools. Been enjoying your content since I’m in a similar role with probably a familiar career arc to get here.

I offered to try and contribute to your cohort as a non technical background guy last week but as someone who knows how to use AI effectively and to use it effectively there is a technical side to it. So if you want to use AI effectively for business youre gonna have to learn more technical things or youre going to set ai up in a way that isnt safe or effective every time.

By that reasoning, leaders should only lead what they are specifically trained for or have done as an individual contributor. However leadership in general has little to do with one’s ability to tactically execute. I won’t go into a deep dive on leadership behaviors versus those of individual contributors, but the performance metrics change. Having a good command of a given field is important, though, and I would argue that a lot of the emerging AI leaders of today have deep understanding in AI. It was the same thing in the early internet, and nobody was telling early internet pioneers and leaders that they shouldn’t pursue leadership in internet-based businesses just because they didn’t have experience with hardware and network topology.

As a nontechnical founder of a 1-person startup, I love it when people make comments like those, cause it will make my story that much better

Well said. Anyone that tries to gatekeep in 2026 is either self conscious or afraid of what is inevitably coming.

That’s a weird take that only tech ppl should be AI leaders. Just cause you are technical doesn’t automatically make you proficient in all tech related things. I think whomever is more proficient in ai should lead

It’s a large language model after all. Those who command language and build intuition and pattern recognition excel. If I need a technology opinion, then I will consult Claude Code. I am a lawyer. I’ve definitely talked with many IT people who can’t speak my language. They don’t have enough reps. If anything, I see AI technical people looking laughable when they comment on AI in law because they have no concept of lawyer ethics, lawyer IT security standards, and evidentiary concerns.

can confirm, understanding even a small part of how to leverage AI and applying that to your own knowledge of your business is a huge advantage

I don't disagree, but having a technical background helps someone understand what the limitations are. You can understand it conceptually, but where you get that conceptual knowledge really matters because it may not be factual and/or practical. But again I'm not disagreeing. I just think the leadership AI badge should go to someone with a technical background if I'm being real. I don't want somebody coming in as a leadership management consultant selling a dream.

Every home owner should have a few power tools, they don’t need every power tool available, but they aren’t just for professional contractors. They shouldn’t try to rewire their house or remove a load bearing wall.. they probably shouldn’t go online and invent power tool hacks that are potentially dangerous, but they can definitely go show other people that regular home owners can get a lot done (properly) with these tools and be proud of maintaining their home in ways they couldn’t before power tools, and their opinions and feedback on power tools are a different perspective and outside the box of pros, and are the best way to get more people using the benefits of power tools.

AI is JUST a marketing term for SCAMS. It is not real. Just mechanical Turks. None of the so called AI have persistent data store with genuine multidimensional machine learning. Non-technical people don’t even know what that is nor why it is important. Most AI data centers have data that is so bad they produce over 67% error rates.
