Fifteen minutes had passed since practice ended. The gym, once deafening with shouts and squeaking shoes, fell quiet as the team drifted toward the locker rooms.  Inside, the space hummed with a different kind of energy: lockers slamming, showers running, voices bouncing off tile walls.  "I still can’t get over Ginny scoring on the Captain!" Orm laughed, yanking her jersey over her head. Aom chuckled. "I was fully expecting Lena to swat that shot into the parking lot again." Tan nodded slowly. "Yeah… that was strange. Not like her at all."  Bam glanced toward the far corner. Lena sat alone on a wooden bench, still in her damp uniform, laced-up basketball shoes untouched. Her elbows rested on her knees, eyes fixed on the scuffed floor. She hadn’t moved since they walked in.  Bam frowned. "Captain?" No answer. "Lena."  Lena looked up like she’d been pulled from a trance. "Hm?" "Aren’t you going to change?" "In a bit." "You’ve been saying that for five minutes." "Just resting."  Bam shrugged, unconvinced, and headed to her own locker.  Lena’s gaze dropped back to her feet. Stand up. She gripped the edge of the bench until her knuckles whitened. Come on.  She shifted her weight forward—just a little—and the instant she tried to push herself up, a fiery stab tore through her right ankle.  She sank back down at once, heart skipping a beat.  It got worse.  She breathed in slow and shallow, smoothing her expression into blankness.  Across the room, Ginny stepped out of the shower, toweling her hair. She spotted Lena still sitting there. "You alright?" Lena met her gaze evenly. "I am." "Not changing yet?" "Soon." Ginny smiled. "Don’t linger too long—Coach will lock the whole building." "I know."  Lena let out a silent breath once Ginny turned away. That was too close.  Orm finished first. "I’m starving!" Tan laughed. "When are you not?" "Fair!" Aom zipped her bag. "Cafeteria run?" "Count me in." "Same here."  Chatter about food filled the room—but Bam kept glancing over, every few seconds. Something felt… wrong.  A few minutes later, she walked back over, arms folded. "Seriously. Why are you still glued to that bench?" Lena looked up. "I said I’m resting." "You’ve rested enough. Up you get."  For a heartbeat, Lena froze. Bam tilted her head. "What?" "Nothing." Lena forced a dry smirk. "You’re starting to sound like me." Bam snickered. "Says the human rulebook."  The others laughed, and even Lena managed a faint chuckle—enough to throw them off. Bam shook her head. "Fine. Just don’t doze off there." "I won’t."  One by one, they filed out. "Bye, Captain!" "See you tomorrow!" "Don’t be late!" Lena nodded. "See you."  Soon only Bam and Ginny remained. Ginny slung her bag over her shoulder. "See you, Lena." "Tomorrow."  The door clicked shut behind her. Silence rushed back in.  Bam sighed. "I’m heading out too. You sure you’re okay?" Lena lifted her chin, wearing that same unshakable, confident smile everyone knew. "I’m fine." Bam searched her face for a long moment, then gave her shoulder a light nudge. "If you say so. Don’t push yourself too hard." "I won’t." "Bye." The door clicked shut again.  Total silence.  The smile vanished instantly. Lena stared down at her right foot.  With trembling fingers, she reached for her shoelaces—even the smallest twist sent a sharp jolt up her leg. She bit her lip to muffle a gasp.  "Tch… so much for ‘it’s nothing’."  She closed her eyes, gathered every ounce of strength, and pushed herself up. The moment her right foot bore any weight, searing pain shot all the way to her hip. Her knees buckled, and she caught herself on the bench just before collapsing.  A ragged groan slipped out.  "Damn it…"  She stood there, hunched over, breathing hard until the worst of the wave passed. The afternoon sun dipped low, gilding the campus in warm hues of tangerine and amber.  continuation ➡️ Comment Section ⤵️ #lenamiu #lenalalina #miunatsha #gxg
