My baby boy who is only 4yrs old was just paralyzed from IVDD. The vets and research specifically say you should only ever be holding them horizontally (one hand under chest, one hand under stomach/back legs, horizontal ONLY never vertical). Even if your pup is touching the bottom of the bag, the pressure on their spine is still too much because of the vertical position. Please, this is so cute but it is NOT worth what we’ve been through with my boy; I wouldn’t wish it on any doxie parent. I would look into a supported side sling, or even a backpack that supports them horizontally under the chest and lower abdomen/back legs; they make them! We never thought it would happen to us; take every single precaution that you can 🙏🏼

Your weenie’s spine should ALWAYS be parallel to the ground. I love my Pup and Bubs every day carrier if I want to carry my girl hands free while keeping her in position. If she’s going to be on a bike, you need a basket.

People don’t understand that if you baby your mini dachshunds backs they’re more likely to get IVDD if something does happen. If you allow them to do stairs and jump in moderation they will get stronger and it’s less likely to happen

We have the same exact one but mine came with a detachable backpack to go behind our dog that clips / unclips and holds all her stuff 🐶

we keep our rides short mostly. Stopping frequently to rest and stretch. We take IVDD serious but not so serious we don’t allow him to build strong back muscles. Do things that make you both happy :)

I used one for my doxie bc he wouldn’t walk so I had to carry him in it and then walk back so he got exercise, BUT, do not use the arm holes! Their arms are short and the arm holes restrict their shoulder movement. My dog was limping from his front legs in pain for a week. And if you’ve ever seen the nyc corgi that goes in a backpack, he had the same injuries. I suspect it was from the arm restriction bc they also have short legs. So with those backpacks it’s actually less about the back and more about their arms being pulled up unnaturally
