I wanted a dog that I could bring as many places as possible. Travel, hike, all kinds of adventures. But the shelter lied to me about my dog’s personality. She ended up being so reactive and anxious, she can’t handle a lot situations or environments. We do the best we can and I love her to death. She still gets plenty of hikes and adventures in environments she can handle, but it does make me sad when I see people out and about doing things with their dogs that I wish I could do with mine.

my hot take is that majority people can actually own dogs responsibly, but very little people actually research breeds that fit their lifestyle, which ends up setting the dog and owner up for failure.

When I was ready to adopt, I went to my local rescue and told the staff what kind of behavior, traits, and energy level I wanted in a dog. I didn't care what breed/breed mix or package those traits came in. They introduced me to a 1 1/2 year old Staffy who was found as a stray, spent 6 months in the rescue, and was adopted and returned twice. But, he had all the traits I was looking for and ended up being the perfect dog for me. An amazing combination of sweet and calm, adventurous and playful, contemplative and chill. He ended up being my soul dog.

I work in a shelter and omg the amount of times I tell someone “hey this dog is going to be too much energy for you” they don’t listen and take it home anyway. Then a week later they want to return it.

totally agree! I get so frustrated when I se people getting themselves some kind of sled dogs and complain about them pulling the lead 🫠 ore getting themselves a hunting dog for moose ore deer hunting and complain about them barking all day... yes that's what they are bred for 😅

I love this concept and I have a English setter while having a lot of time for walks in a day (~3h) and I also do dog shows and a little agility so I love that she can do all this with me

Got an English Labrador because they are more chill and okay with having lazy days. Mine turned out to be psycho with crazy high energy, so now I’ve taken up hiking to make sure he’s happy and fulfilled. It’s made me healthier so it was for the best. Not what I envisioned, but I’m happy with how it’s turned out
