This is pure false. In Ghana chiefs are the authority, longues and elders are just subjects who can be fired anytime. The chief signature is on the document no elder signature is there.

His argument is partly correct. The chief can only sell stool land with the consent and concurrence of the elders. However, if the land is the chief’s personal property he needs no consent from anyone. If it’s a family land, then head of the family sells with the consent and concurrence of the principal members of the family, and not everyone. In this case too, if the land is his personal property he sells without anyone’s consent. Context is very important here. We must draw the land between alienating stool land and a land that belongs to the chief as his personal property.
