The real problem is that Hawaiian Electric (HECO) prioritizes the wealthy home on the Kona side of the island -this is where LA Dodgers star Ohtani lives - and will ignore the poor side south of Hilo (where this is and Puna area). Last time we had a storm, Hilo and Kona had power in 1 day, rural areas went 7 days. It’s about money.
