she's honestly an amazing mom because she's only strict with them when it's about being discipline and how well they do academically. but she doesn't seem to take away their sense of identity by controlling their actions and thoughts the way most south asians still do. I'm 26 and my parents still want me to speak, think, and behave in ways that portray them as good parents in society. there's no freedom of speech or self expression with clothes we'd like to wear or we even get mocked for the music we listen to. they're not bothered about what you like and what you don't, but as long as you're with them (and you have to until you get a job and are stable enough to leave), you have to do exactly as they say, no relationships, not getting too close with friends, just be what they want you to be. so vidya really does allow her kids to be themselves and this is a great parenting style
