i actually think it’s not as common anymore bc the multi generational family is not really a thing anymore. historically, family units would stay close and now it seems like we are all on an adventure of “independence”

i highly recommend toni morrison’s the bluest eye!! it was published in 1970 so it’s definitely a modern literary classic! it’s not split into two timelines as dramatically as wuthering heights but it goes back and tells the individual stories of the main characters parents which i really loved bc it helped explain their family dynamic sooo much!
