Marcus Lillington y Phil Harrison siguen tocando juntos en Stroke the Toad. #80s #Love #music #thebest #ballads
She went to the hospital after a fall... and they discovered she had been carrying a "stone baby" in her abdomen for decades. A 92-year-old Chilean woman arrived at the hospital after suffering a fall. What seemed like a relatively routine check-up ended up revealing something extraordinary: upon performing imaging studies, doctors observed a massive calcified mass inside her abdomen. But it was not a tumor. The images showed the structure of a practically complete fetus, surrounded by a thick layer of calcium. It was estimated to correspond to a pregnancy of approximately 30 weeks and that the mass weighed nearly two kilograms. The diagnosis was lithopedion, popularly known as a "stone baby." This extremely rare phenomenon can occur after an abdominal ectopic pregnancy. If the fetus dies and is too large to be reabsorbed by the body, it can remain inside the abdominal cavity. Over time, the body can deposit calcium around the tissues, isolating them and reducing the risk of decomposition and infection. In this case, doctors estimated that this structure had been inside her abdomen for about half a century. What is surprising is that a person can live for decades with a lithopedion without knowing of its existence. The woman had experienced abdominal discomfort and other problems for years, but no one had linked those symptoms to a pregnancy that occurred decades ago. Because she was 92 years old, doctors considered that attempting to surgically remove the mass posed too high a risk and opted not to operate. Thus, a simple fall ended up revealing a story that her body had preserved for approximately 50 years. An abdominal pregnancy that never came to term had been literally encapsulated and calcified within her. The final photograph shows what a calcified fetus or lithopedion can look like.
