As a Korean who LIVED in Korea, they will eat any dog, yes they will eat dogs like the Jin do and tosa inu. However, puppy mills are a big thing and when a dog doesn’t get adopted they will sell it to a meat trade for extra bucks. Or people themselves will sell there dog to the meat trade. It is entirely possible that the pug was in the dog meat trade.

Went to adopt a purebred Maltese “saved” from Koreas dog meat trade. The adoption fee and the rules and policies before they’d adopt the dog out to me was insane. I felt soo weird. Most of their adoptable dogs were purebred from the “Korean meat trade.” I had no idea retail rescue was a thing, but I adopted from the shelter the same day and my boy was free lol

it's a HUGE thing to import small breeds, pugs especially, from asia to SF and slap meat dog on their file 🙄🙄🙄 I've had to unfollow multiple local rescues because of this. they're brokering dogs and using xenophobia to sell them

ANY breed can end up in the meat trade and find themselves on meat farms. and most meat farms are also puppy mills once they are finished breeding them they are often sold for their meat. price is based on weight not how much meat they appear to have. look on some of the charities that rescue these dogs there are all types of breeds pugs appear pretty often by the looks of it! amongst others. if they aren't imported out of those countries there is always a chance they can end up back in the terrible meat trade where they are slaughtered in the most horrific ways you can imagine!
