@mantharetso: Having worked with leaders,I’ve realised that sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of strategy, resources or even talent. It’s the inability to have uncomfortable conversations. The employee whose performance has been declining, but you keep giving them another chance. The team member who consistently misses deadlines, but you don’t address it. The client who keeps crossing boundaries, but you’re afraid to say no because you don’t want to lose the business. The partnership that no longer works, but you keep holding on because you don’t want to disappoint someone. And sometimes, it comes down to people pleasing. You want to be liked. You’re afraid of conflict. You’re afraid of losing people, so you tolerate what you should address. Leadership requires more than the ability to inspire people. It requires the ability to tell the truth when the truth is uncomfortable. Note that avoiding a difficult conversation doesn’t make the problem disappear. Sometimes it makes the problem more expensive. Mastering communication is not just about speaking well. It is also about knowing what needs to be said, when it needs to be said, and having the courage to say it. The conversation you’re avoiding might be the conversation your business needs.
