Gaenslen’s Test is one for a dysfunction of the SI joint. This test came from a paper by Dr. Frederick Gaenslen in 1927 (GAENSLEN FJ. A paper in 2000 (Van der Wurff, P., Hagmeijer, R. H. M., & Meyne, W. (2000). Clinical tests of the sacroiliac joint: A systematic methodological review. Part 1: Reliability. Manual therapy, 5(1), 30-36.) references a study from 1994 by Mark Laslett (Laslett, M., & Williams, M. (1994). The reliability of selected pain provocation tests for sacroiliac joint pathology. Spine, 19(11), 1243-1249.) , which found the test to be reliable so that conclusion is made. However, in a later paper by Laslett in 2005 (Laslett, M., Aprill, C. N., McDonald, B., & Young, S. B. (2005). Diagnosis of sacroiliac joint pain: validity of individual provocation tests and composites of tests. Manual therapy, 10(3), 207-218), he found that the sensitivity is 37%, specificity is 71% for it. Then in 2020 another paper found the sensitivity to be 61.5% and the specificity to be 33.3% (Nejati, P., Sartaj, E., Imani, F., Moeineddin, R., Nejati, L., & Safavi, M. (2020). Accuracy of the Diagnostic Tests of Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction. Journal of chiropractic medicine, 19(1), 28–37).
