@sacramentourbanmedia916: A West Virginia mother is facing a felony child neglect charge after authorities say her 6-year-old son jumped from an apartment window and later tested positive for cocaine. Stevie Thibodeaux, 30, was arrested after deputies responded to her Fairmont apartment following reports that her child had fallen from a window. The boy survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Thibodeaux reportedly told investigators she had been asleep in another room when the incident happened. Deputies observed an open window and a screen on the floor, while Thibodeaux pointed out child-safety locks and other precautions she said were normally used to keep her son safe. The investigation took a more serious turn after authorities were informed that cocaine had been detected in the child’s system. Deputies obtained a search warrant and returned to the apartment. During the search, investigators reportedly discovered a plate, a benefits card, suspected drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance. Thibodeaux allegedly admitted to using cocaine but told authorities she believed the items had been stored somewhere her child could not reach. She was booked into the North Central Regional Jail on a charge of gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
